For first-timers headed to college, or the simply those wanting to return to the classroom, MCC is starting its English Summer Bridge Program on Monday. “Those students who have tested into developmental English in the fall, this is a really good opportunity for them to skip that class and be able to go straight into composition one in the fall, so that saves them an entire semester in a developmental course and it also saves them money,” said Lisa Rhodes, one of the instruct

Third Graders take virtual field trip to Statue of Liberty

Yesterday, third grade students at West Hills Elementary School took a field trip to the Statue of Liberty using virtual headsets. “It’s a new tech that’s coming around. You’ve probably seen it on your shelves in Best Buy and Walmart. Basically, what you do is you put a phone in a headset. When you look in the headset, you can look around and you’ll see whatever is projected onto the phone,” said MCC Phi Theta Kappa President, Aaron Kirby. Earlier this week, the third grad

Yesterday, students and faculty at Meridian Community College took a quick break from class. The college held its annual fall festival to give student groups a chance to promote their missions and raise money. A few students shared why they chose to attend. “Really for the fish. But it’s a great environment for the kids. You got a lot of things to do. You got games, food,” said Raheem Warren. “I kind of wanted to join the cultural organization, but I’m really just lookin

The two are hosting a parenting seminar next Thursday at the Tommy E. Dulaney Center. “When we as parents try to address issues with our children, maybe we’re sometimes guessing. Meridian Community College and the American Cancer Society are joining together to continue the fight against breast cancer. Today at Dumont Plaza, the two groups will host the annual Queen City Race for Life. “The 5k race will start at 8 a.m. Followed by that will be a one-mile fun run. MCC’s English bridge program preps students for college writing

Through its new English bridge program, Meridian Community College is helping first-year students bypass remedial English classes. “We’ve found over the years that there’s just so many students who don’t need to be there. They either don’t test well or some reason or other. We thought that this would be a nice writing intensive program over a 2-week period,” said Robert Fowler, one of the program’s two instructors. Over 30 students received certificates yesterday for comple
