Whynot motorsports park is saluting all the armed forces this weekend by hosting a NeSmith racing series. “Meridian Coca-cola helps us put this one every year. We call it the Coca-cola 50.
"The NeSmith national touring series comes into town with all their big cars and stars, so it’s a big deal. There’ll be a lot of cars with a lot of big fancy rigs.” Rodney Wing said.
Wing says the race usually attracts many visitors from surrounding areas.
“It’s one we’ve had for 10 years now and it’s always turned out to be one of the very biggest and best," Wing explained. "All of the guys travel in from out of state and come race with us on Saturday night, then they race with Columbus, MS, on Sunday night. So it’s a real neat deal for sure.”
The race will feature a ceremony that will recognize those who have died while serving in\ the country’s armed forces.
“We have 24 American flags, so when the racers go out on the track, they do a 4-ride salute. All of them have an American flag out of the window and everything like that on this weekend. So it’s always kind of a touching little tribute there with all of the cars out there and everything is fixing to go down. The race is fixing to start.” He said
Wing shares why he thinks it’s important to remember the nation’s fallen soldiers.
“Just the obvious you know, fighting for our freedom and paying the ultimate sacrifice.” Wing added.
