Winn Dixie Store Gets Major Makeover

The Winn Dixie store located at 5100 Highway 39 North has received a makeover. Today during a grand opening ceremony, Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn Dixie, celebrated the store’s updated look.

“This particular store has been placed here since about 1999. We felt as though we have a great community here. We get great support. What we wanted to do was freshen up the store and give the customers here something different,” said Ian McLeod, president and CEO of Southeastern Grocers.

Various new features have been added to the store, including a fresh pizza station and a coffee shop.

“We’re pleased with the initial reaction to the store. We’ve lowered over 3,000 prices in the last six months, a $70 million investment across the company,” said McLeod.

He added, “We’re now developing quality fresh [produce] from our store, and we’re giving back to the community. We think we’re doing everything that our customers are looking for us to do, but ultimately the customers will decide.”

Last year, the Winn Dixie store started an Independence Day program and will be making a charitable donation to veterans.

“We have decided that on the 4th of July, we will donate every cent of every dollar of our profits to the Hope for the Warriors charity. So every cent that comes through from our profits from the customers that are just shopping here, we will donate all of it,” said McLeod.

Mayor Percy Bland shared his thoughts about Southeastern Grocers’ investment.

“They’ve totally remodeled this entire store to change the overall grocery store shopping experience. It’s a part of my family’s grocery store experience. My wife gets all of our food from this store. The investment they’ve made in this community means a lot because it means they believe in our city.”
