The United Way of East Mississippi has a new man in charge. Jim wink assumed the position of CEO on Monday.
“I’m real excited. I have had the opportunity to work in the nonprofit world for close to 40 years. But being a part of an agency that has such a responsibility with so many different agencies and programs, it’s really exciting,” said Wink.
After working for the Boys and Girls Club, which he helped create in 1988, Wink said he’s ready to be of service.
“I’m going to make sure that as many people as possible understand the effects that we’re having in a positive way. As I ask people in large groups, how many people have been affected, indirectly or directly by the United Way, a hundred percent of the people raise their hand. So I think it’s going to be my job to continue to get out into the community and make people aware.”
Wink said that one of his major goals is to continue the organization’s fundraising efforts.
“This year the goal again is a million dollars. We feel very confident that we can meet that and hopefully surpass that, but it’s not going to happen overnight. It’s not going to happen without a lot of hard work, and it’s not going to happen without the total community behind us. I’m very confident that that’s going to happen, so we’re going to keep our fingers crossed and do all that we can serve as many people as we can.”
