Central Mississippi Homeless Coalition is lending a helping hand to the homeless. On Friday, January 27th, the coalition will host an event that offers free services to those seeking assistance.
“What we’re going to be able to do is to get them connected with much needed services within our community. Services can include housing assistance, legal services, medical services,” said Care Lodge Executive Director Leslie Payne.
In addition to those services, the homeless will receive lunch, haircuts, and hygiene kits.
The event is supposed to help the homeless receive needed services that they’re often denied due to misconceptions.
“Some misconceptions can be that they choose to be homeless, that it’s something they can do something about. Sometimes people think that the homeless are dangerous, that they’re all substance abuse users or alcoholics, and that simply is not the case. Sometimes people are homeless due to no circumstances that they can control,” said Payne.
The coalition is asking for the community’s help in spreading the word.
“For this to be successful event for the homeless, we need those referrals. If you work with the homeless population, please refer them to multi-county on January 27th,” said Payne.
The event will be at the Multi-County Community Service Agency from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
