Stuff the Bus

Lauren Stephens, the United way of East Mississippi intern says, “We have the big yellow Lauderdale county school bus here today. We’ve had tons of people come in, to bring their school supplies, school uniforms and donations.”

All because The Stuff the Bus fundraiser and collection drive, took place this afternoon, at Raising Caine’s.

“It’s finally here, we have been working all summer for today. Today is Stuff the Bus at Raising Caine’s on North Hills Street.”

Today, there were various ways to donate to the Stuff the Bus program. There was eating inside Raising Caine’s this afternoon, and fifteen percent of the cost was donated, you could make a monetary donation, drop off school supplies, or purchase a shirt.

Stephens says, “It’s a really awesome way to give back. Over half the kids in Meridian and Lauderdale County to go school without the supplies and uniforms they need. And so, this is really an awesome event to bring the community together and focus on empowering our kids.”

Community members, like Dr. Owens, came out to show her support.

“So, we got together and decided to take up donations for the cause, just to reach out and help the community.”

And Volunteers like Chloe Garner of the Debs Social Service Club, spent their day, collecting donations.

“We help Stuff the Bus every year. We just like to help with the donations and give back to the schools and our community.”

In the past 6 years, over 5900 students have been helped from the program.
