Local youth complete leadership mentoring program

Local middle school and high school girls were recognized over the weekend for completing a 12-month mentoring program. Started by Councilwoman Kim Houston, the Sarah’s Daughters Academy taught girls how to go after their dreams and become future leaders. Activities included visiting the civil rights museum in Birmingham, Ala, and volunteering at local nursing homes.
“It’s important that we listen to whoever is talking to you about doing something positive in our city and communities. I’m just one person. I like to consider myself an ordinary person doing extraordinary things for god. We’re just excited that we have a group of people that shared the vision and helped me make this happen,” said Houston
