One percent sales tax approved in Sumter county

The residents in Sumter county have spoken.

On Monday the county voted in favor of a 1-percent sales tax that would bring a new hospital to the area.

The hospital will be fully funded from the proceeds of the tax increase.

The tax increase should generate roughly $1 million per year for the next 25 years.
