Fall Bash blood drive

Blood donors made their way, to the United Blood Services Inaugural Fall Bash blood drive.

“We are so excited to be hosting our first ever fall bash here at the MCC Dulaney Center. And we are just asking everybody to come out and help us celebrate live, and kick of the year by donating blood. And, making that difference for patients in our community," said donor recruitment supervisor Katie Martin.

Donors gave blood, for the United Blood Services who had a goal, to collect 150 pints for both Alabama and Mississippi.

“We have signed in about 100 donors so far today. So, there is still time, we still need people coming out. Especially if you are a type o, we are calling on you to come out and help us supply that blood that is needed for our patients right here in the community.”

She says would be donors should know, the donation eligibility requirements.

“You have to be 16 years old to donate. Weigh at least 110 lbs. There are some additional height and weight requirements for our donors 16 to 22. That information is available on our website.”

She goes on to say that with no upper age limit, virtually anyone can donate.

“You just have to be feeling well and health and you can come in and donate. Some of the things have changed. We ask people to requalify if it’s been several years since you’ve donated. All blood pressure medications are ok. Controlled diabetics can give. Also, tattoos, if that was done in a licensed facility, there is no wait time for you to donate.
