Grand jury states Lauderdale county courthouse in poor condition

A grand jury says the Lauderdale county courthouse needs repairs and recommends building a new Lauderdale county jail.
In a statement, the jury explained the courthouse has extensive mold and rust and that the walls need to be repainted and the ceilings repaired.
As for the jail, the grand jury says the facility has poor ventilation and rust problems.
If the county builds a new jail, the grand jury suggests building it large enough to house inmates for years to come and designing it so inmates can be observed at all times.
Last week, the Lauderdale county board of supervisors hired LPK architects to work with yates construction to develop plans for a new courthouse and jail.
