Security cameras coming to Meridian Housing Authority communities

New safety measures are coming to affordable housing properties in Meridian. The Meridian Housing Authority has received a $180,000 grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide security and surveillance cameras on site.

“Our residents have called to our attention a lot of things that happen after they leave, after the property managers leave at 5 o’clock that are hard to document,” said Meridian Housing Authority Executive Director Ronald Turner, Sr.

“We have gotten reports of shots fired in several of the affordable housing communities. These cameras will act as another set of eyes that will be monitored by members of the police department. It will be a great asset, not just for the community, but us in our crime-fighting efforts,” said Meridian Police Chief Benny Dubose.

Exterior surveillance cameras will be installed on all ten Meridian Housing Authority residential properties. An average of 20 cameras will be on each property. The cameras installation is expected to be complete shortly after the start of the new year.
