Club 601 Raided, Owner Arrested

A Meridian club owner has been arrested on illegal gambling and moonshine charges.

Sixty-five-year-old John W. Johnson, is the owner of Club 601 on Long Creek Road southeast of Meridian.

The club was recently raided, and State Alcohol Beverage Control agents seized moonshine, illegal whiskey and two gambling machines.

He was charged with possession of untaxed whiskey, gaming on licensed premises, possession of liquor on beer permitted premises and possession of alcohol with intent to sell without a permit.

Johnson is currently out on bond.
