Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Now that the holidays are approaching, what better way to represent this time of year than some festive lights? It’s almost time for the annual City of Meridian Tree Lighting ceremony. This ceremony is extra special because it kicks off the holidays in its own unique way.

Laura Carmichael:

“This is a long- standing tradition with the city of Meridian. Our mayor is always a big part of this ceremony. It kind of kicks off the holiday season. Ya know, we’ve got a lot of businesses who are already downtown decorating for Christmas, but for the entire city of Meridian, this is the time we light the tree, and we light everything else up and officially kick off the holiday season.”

This year those in attendance will get a special treat. not only will the Meridian High School Lamplighters and the Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church Children’s Choir be there, but there will also be special dance groups to perform dances to groove in the holidays.

Carmichael:

“It’s important for us because I think it brings out the whole community. It brings that unity for the whole community, and it’s such a family-oriented event. We’re so blessed to have such a wonderful community and whether it be businesses or family, we can all come together and celebrate really the true meaning of what the holidays are about.”

The ceremony will begin on Tuesday, November 28th at 5:30pm on the City Hall lawn.
