Man Charged with Murder in Meridian

A woman is dead, and her boyfriend has been charged with murder following an incident that took place at an area hotel.

Police Chief Benny Dubose says, 42-year-old Michael Portis has been charged with the murder of his 37-year-old girlfriend, Miranda Allen. Portis and Allen were involved in a dispute which lead to a physical altercation that started at the Western Hotel in Meridian. Afterwards, Portis dropped Allen off at a local hospital where she later died. Dubose says that Allen had bruises and lacerations across her body. Portis is currently in jail with a $500,000 bond.
