7th Annual Wechsler Foundation Toy Giveaway this Saturday
The seventh annual Wechsler Foundation toy giveaway along with a free breakfast is happening this Saturday, but the foundation is calling on everyone to help in making this giveaway the best it can be.
“The entire event is sponsored totally on donations and also cash and toy donations. We’re desperately in need of more toys and or cash. Representative Charles Young buys the breakfast and prepares it himself each and every year, and that’s a blessing to us,” said Greg Moore of the foundation.
“We’ve had a number of sponsors already step up; Berry and Gardener Funeral Home, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Outback Steakhouse, the Rotary Club. We’ve had a number of supporters, but we still need lots and lots of more toys, as well as cash, because we never know how many people are going to show up,” Moore said.
Reverend Moore says over the years the community has come together to volunteer in such a tremendous way in order to make the dreams and aspirations of the Wechsler Foundation hopefully come true.
“We’re in the process of restoring this building to its former glory. In its glory days it was a theatre, it was a hub for the community. It’s going to hopefully house a police precinct, computer labs, putting people back into society that have been incarcerated, GED programs; just a full community center for this entire area. It’s going to be a real plus for Meridian and the surrounding areas,” Moore said.
The toy giveaway will take place at New Olive Ministries, and doors will open at 10am. To find out more about donating, contact Reverend Moore at 601-595-2438.
