Keeping pets warm in cold weather

Dr. Allison Moore of Meridian Animal Care Center hopes people are taking precautions for our furry friends during this cold snap. She has several suggestions for pets owners.

1. Make sure outside pets have three-sided shelters. This includes dogs and horses.

2. Make sure shelters are warm. Lay out hay or woodchips in areas that could get muddy if precipitation comes into play.

3. Make sure pets are fed and watered well. Animals consume more in colder temperatures which can give them more energy to keep them warm.

4, Small dogs, birds, and cats should be indoors during temperatures like we are experiencing today.
