What is mental health?
For those of us in the field, we are often asked what is mental illness. When trying to explain mental illness beyond the medical diagnosis, it can best be described as a struggle. A struggle to belong. While one in four people struggle with mental illness, a lot of those individuals experience a feeling of being alone in their fight. Those with mental illness demonstrate remarkable bravery every day. And those of us in the field see this day in, day out. Whether it is depression, anxiety, a thought disorder, or substance abuse; we see these individual and family transformations first-hand and delight in our role to help find hope and healing.
The most important message is that if you are dealing with the effects of mental illness; please know that there is hope. Don't be afraid to reach out for help. You are not alone and we will walk with you to a brighter future.
