Nursing Care Week
In honor of Nursing Care Week, nursing homes across the country are flipping their way into fun activities, in celebration. The theme for this year is “Celebrating Life’s Stories”, and Queen City Nursing Center took to balloons to help tell those stories.

“The most significant part about the balloon is that every balloon has a story in it, and we lift them off, and we put a name on there which is my name, so that they can notify us when they receive the life story of our residents. Sometimes we give gifts to the residents that their life story gets chosen.” -Tammy Turner, nurse/ admissions coordinator

Inside the balloons are stories of each of the residents, which can include needs of a resident or a diagnosis they may have. There are different activities planned for each day during this week.
“Fun. I love fun, fun, fun. They come to me, and they give me ideas. That’s the good thing about it, because I ask them for different ideas to make them feel like they’re useful, you know, to give a helping hand.” -Shandra Collier, activity director

“The reason why it is, is because everybody has a story to tell, and our motto here is join their journey. Once you get their story in, then you can join their journey because some of them have different diagnoses that affect their memory, so if you know their life story, you can get in their life and join their journeys.” -Turner
