Boys & Girls Club kick off summer program
“I like this program, I like to just have fun with them and just be connected with people that I haven’t been connected with before,” said Jahada Martin, student at MHS.
While training their brains in the morning and playing around in the afternoon, kids participating in the Boys & Girls Club summer program are sure to have a good time.

“I feel like it’s a good program because you get connected with people and you get to meet new kids and be there for somebody who doesn’t have somebody there for them. So, I feel like that the Boys & Girls Club can just help you out.” Martin said.

This ten-week program is designed to give children a place to go to keep their minds fresh, play games with friends, and to even make new friends for the course of the summer.

“It’s somewhere for them to go. It’s a safe haven during the summer time. Most kids don’t have a place to go to, but for the Boys & Girls Club, we’re a home they can come home to each and every day Monday to Friday. It’s a place where they can learn. During the summer time, a lot of kids can lose their reading skills or they need to brush up on their reading skills and their math skills, and this is the place for them to do those things,” explained Shannel Smith, Unit Director, Boys & Girls Club of East MS, Northeast.
The cost is $200 for one child and $400 for a family of two or more.
