U.S. Senate candidate makes his way through Meridian
The democratic leader in the house within the Mississippi legislature has made his way to Meridian for his campaign. David Baria, who has also been a practicing attorney for over 25 years, is running for the U.S. Senate.
“I’ve seen Mississippi languish in 50th place for far too long, and we’ve had the same people we keep sending to Washington keep sending the same tiring policies for 30 years now. We keep getting the same results, and that is that we’re in 50th place in the important categories. Mississippians are ready for a change. This is going to be a change election, and we think this is a change year. If we don’t change some things right now, then some things are going to be irretrievably broken.” -David Baria

Baria says one of his proudest moments in his legislative career is stopping legislation that he believes would have changed the way public schools are funded in a negative way, and he says they did this by offering seventeen amendments to try and improve the bill.
A lot of his focus is on public education and how he believes it is severely under-funded, and if you didn’t vote in the first election, you can still vote in the run-off, next Tuesday.
“Our school systems, we’re chronically underfunding them for years and years. We’re down about two billion dollars now from what we consider adequate funding and not cadillac funding, not gold standard, but just adequate and we’re two billion under that. If we don’t stop these things right now, if we don’t make a change right now, then the next two generations in Mississippi are going to have a terrible struggle. And we’re not going to be able to attract people and we’re not going to be able to attract the kind of companies that we want to create 21st century jobs.” -Baria
