Fund for Jeannie's Place receives donation
A familiar playground will be coming down, but a new one will eventually be put in its place. In 2017, the community came together to create a fund for a new playground called Jeannie’s Place, which will be for handicapped children and those with special needs and will take the place of Planet Playground. Earlier today, Southern Pipe and Supply donated $25,000 to the fund, making the raised total $240,500. Phase one of the construction can begin once $320,000 has been given. Jeannie is a local handicapped girl who has inspired the playground and she was in attendance.

"For Jeanie herself, she doesn't realize that she has limitations as far as physically. She thinks hey I just want to go and play, and they do. Most of the children with special needs-- they're just like any regular kid. They just want to play and have a good time. It's just so important not only for them to get to play but also to bring awareness for everybody else, for regular kids. It's great for them to see they can play alongside someone like Jeanie and they can all just play together." -Julie Null, Jeannie’s mother
Contributions to this fund should be made out to the Community Foundation of East Mississippi with Jeannie’s Place in the memo line. Their mailing address is PO Box 865, Meridian, MS 39302.
