Lauderdale County's new superintendent preps big plans for the start of the new school year.
Lauderdale County School starts a new school year on August 6th.
Just a few weeks ago, a new superintendent was welcome to the school district and has so much in store to keep Lauderdale County School Systems on top of everything.
“ I think coming into a new place like this is important, not to just to want to come in and change everything especially with the success that the school district has had but, really just take advantage of these early first few weeks, listening and learning and again just wanting to see what we do really well and evaluate some of those things that we’re not doing so good and try to improve on them.”
Dr. Markcain Says he can remember when it all started: that is when he knew what his calling was.
“I just kept coming back to being involved with kids, and kids lives, and changing lives and so coaching and teaching kid of became a passion and so it kind of stemmed from relationships early on with those great teachers and coaches that I had in high school.”

Markcain also says with all of the experience under his belt,it only felt right to want to serve as superintendent in Lauderdale County.
“ I served 15 years in the Kosciusko School District as a middle school assistant principal, teacher, elementary principal and also a high school principal. The last two years I served as a school assistant superintendent in the Scott County School District and saw the opportunity here at Lauderdale County and recognized it as one of the top school districts in Mississippi and felt called to try to pursue this position.”
According to Markcain in order for the Lauderdale County School Systems to remain excellent, the school district will have to push a little harder on what the school System stands for.
“ I think we have to do a better job of putting our message out there about what we do and how well we do it, I think Lauderdale County school district is one of the top school districts in the state of Mississippi.
