Local church feeds teachers at Oakland Heights Elementary
Faith Baptist Church on Highway 19 in Meridian came together today to serve lunch to the teachers of Oakland Heights Elementary in a welcome back luncheon.
“Well, Faith Baptist Church adopted Oakland Heights several years ago, and every year they have a welcome back luncheon for us. They celebrate us throughout the year, and we appreciate so much because they hold onto us, celebrate us, and they pour into us. We appreciate them thinking about us throughout the school year.” -Cynthia Rackley, computer lab instructor at Oakland Heights Elem.

The youth within the church helped to prepare and serve the food to the teachers. Gifts including gift bags and first day survival kits were handed out to the teachers as well. One youth member reflected on how teachers have been important in her life when she transitioned from homeschooling to public school.

“They help me make friends in public school and just learn. See, I’m dyslexic, so they helped me a lot. They put effort in my time. It really helped me, and I’m really glad there’s people like that in the world to help people like me.” -Alyssa Franklin, youth member at Faith Baptsit
After lunch, the church worshipped and prayed over the teachers as they prepare for the new year. Though Faith Baptist did this to give back, the teachers hope to give back this coming school year, as well.
“I hope to influence patience, self-respect, respect for others, responsibility, and a love for learning.” -Rackley
