Project at dangerous intersection now complete
Work that began on a dangerous crossover last summer is now complete. The U.S. Highway 45 and State Route 145 median crossover in Clarke county has now been turned into a partial j-turn intersection. The $2.1 million project was completed in 13 months, and Commissioner Tom King says this intersection format is much safer than having traffic from State Route 145 simply cross the divided highway. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, nationwide j-turns have reduced crashes by over 40 percent and reduced fatalities by 70 percent at the intersections where they were installed.
