Meridian High School preps students on Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

According to BigFutureCollegeBoard.org, the cost of college can range from $10,000 to over $30,000 a year.

Meridian High School faculty and staff saw a need to have students complete a Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in part of FAFSA Day held at the high school today.

“Every Senior across this county has to complete a FAFSA report in order to obtain any type of scholarship dollars that are out there, so we want our students to be ahead of that to make sure that they are meeting deadlines, so that they are afforded any type of scholarship dollars grant rewards that they can get,.”

In partnership with FAFSA Day, Meridian Community College Faculty and Staff assisted students and parents who needed guidance while completing the application.

“Definitely when you’re on the computer and trying to get things going you have questions you’re not sure of, and having someone that you can talk to is very beneficial, because if you were at home, we’d probably be making many mistakes.”

Meridian High School 12th grade student Abbye Hughes says she has big college plans in her future, and that is why she thinks it is important for students to complete their FAFSA.

“ My plans for the next four years is to attend a university, and end up with my doctor of osteopathy degree.”

Meridian High School principal Victor Hubbard believes students should get a head start on completing their FAFSA now, to make things easier down the road.

“Should they procrastinate in today’s era we know that dollars may not be there for them to attend the college of their choice which means it would be a burden for parents to have to pay out of pocket and of course we don’t want that.”
