Non-Profit organizations collaborate for the Thanksgiving holiday.

This black Friday, The Meridian Family of Stations and several local non-profit organizations in Meridian have teamed up to focus on giving for this Thanksgiving season.

Our Reasons for Giving event will take place at Bonita Lakes Mall along with Mississippi Blood Services to collect blood and other donations for 12 other participating non-profit agencies.

“it’s important for the agencies in our area to work together and come together in these type of things, I think it’s a great idea as people are giving in one way that they can give in others.”

Love’s Kitchen executive director Fannie Johnson says she see's the importance behind wanting to help those in need of the community during this Thanksgiving Holiday.

“It’s always be important to help around in the community where ever you can, sometimes it’s with a can of food, it’s a check, it’s volunteering but a day of caring is a special opportunity for people to come together and have a variety of agencies at the same time.”

Wesley House executive director David Schultz says helping others can be far more rewarding than receiving.

“To be able to give, in our case we’re the middle man; we make giving for those in our community to those in need, we make that possible and it’s an even greater opportunity I think for us.”

Johnson says non-profits rely heavily on support from the community.

“I am amazed every year of all the support that we continue to get, that helps us feed over 4,000 meals a month and do all of the projects for our homeless clients especially.”
