The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office shares holiday travel pointers.
The Thanksgiving Holiday is only 2 days away, and several motorists will travel to and from their destination.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office is giving pointers on how you and your family can remain safe during travel.
“Your responsibility is to take care if you’re captain of that vehicle, and to do what you’re supposed to be doing; which is being the driver and when you’re in heavy traffic you’ve got to be looking for obstacles, cars in front of you that are putting on breaks, following too close. All these kinds of things happen in heavy traffic and those are opportunities to have a crash.”

Chief Deputy Calhoun says it will be smart for drivers to have an agenda already planned out so there won't be a need to rush
“Travel time may be longer than normal and plan accordingly, a lot of times we get in a hurry especially trying to get to a location by a certain time which then causes them to drive faster, and those kinds of things and that can always end up in an increased risk for traffic crashes.”
Calhoun also says an easy way to get involved in a wreck is by not paying attention.
“When you’re in heavy traffic you’ve got to be looking for obstacles, cars in front you their putting on breaks, following too close. All of these kinds of things happen in heavy traffic and those are opportunities to have a crash and of course that’s not something you want to do, especially when you’re having a family get together.”
Calhoun adds that this holiday only comes once a year and hopes that drives won’t make it their last one to experience
“Thanksgiving is that time of year where we’re thankful for the many blessings that we have a part of that is our families, our families want to see us, and they want to see us at home having a meal together and not at an emergency room.”
