The Scottish Rite Foundation here in Meridian hosted their annual pancake fundraiser in order to help local students with dyslexia.
“The main thing is to make people aware that it’s a common learning disorder and that students need help. We do our best to contribute and make that well known and help where we can,” said Meridian Scottish Rite General Secretary Henry Wilson.
All proceeds from the fundraiser go to a dyslexia program in Lauderdale county schools and surrounds schools, as well. The foundation first started this fundraiser at the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and over the past few decades, it has become a national event.
“The school systems in Lauderdale county and surrounding schools that are using the program tell us it helps them instantly, you know, for the students that are having problems with their learning such as reading comprehension. We’re just happy to do what we can to help out,” said Wilson.
