“I’m very excited, and I’m shocked. I wasn’t really expecting it, but I’m very honored to get it,” says Southeast Middle School teacher Vicky Stephens.
Seventh Grade Math Teacher Vicky Stephens is this year’s middle school “Teacher of the Year” at Southeast Middle School.

“I love being around the kids, working with the kids, and helping the kids. I love coming to school every day, and I love working with them. I love seeing that light bulb go off in their heads when they actually get something. Its an enjoyable job,” says Stephens.

Stephens has spent nearly twenty years teaching seventh grade here at Southeast.
“They’re at a fun age. You can take on a conversation with them. They understand right from wrong, and they’re very respectful. So, I just love dealing with this age group because they’re becoming little adults—little teenagers.” -Stephens
For the second year in a row, Southeast Middle School also won Challenge 39, in which they had the most student attendance in the county, at 97.5% in October and November.

“Our students here are eager to learn. They’re eager to be here. They know how much we care about them, and its exciting. It’s exciting to see them move forward. No matter where they come from, they are always ready to learn and to do better, and that excites me,” says Principal Brittney Chaney.
