City to apply for bridge repair fund grant
With many bridges in Lauderdale county needing to be repaired, Parks & Rec Director Hugh Smith is looking to get grant money in order to help out with repair projects. The council has approved for a grant request to the Mississippi Department of Transportation Emergency Road and Bridge Repair Fund Program. He says around 400 million dollars has been requested by the state of Mississippi. In current bridge projects in our county, Smith said in the city council meeting that the bridge on Hawkins Crossing Rd. should open on Friday. If the grant is not given, he says they will look to other programs for funds. They expect to know if they have been approved in the beginning of next year.
