Secretary of State announces bid for Lt. Governor

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann has now announced he’s running for Lieutenant Governor. He made a quick stop in Meridian at Structural Steel Services.

“Everything people hired me to do as secretary of state, I did,” said Hosemann.

In making this announcement at Structural Steel, he claimed he wants to show people that he is dedicated to bringing a more educated workforce.

“Well, actually, when I was growing up, I used to stamp steel. So, I’m very familiar with this. We stamped steel at a plant in Vicksburg. This is American steel, built in American buildings with American workers. It started in the 1970’s by a man with a dream and has built up to this. So, I think we want to encourage those businesses to have a future of an educated workforce,” said Hosemann.

In establishing this, he said it’s crucial to get to the workforce before they start their career. He wants to embed community colleges and universities with high schools as soon as those students start the 10th and 11th grade.

“It’s too late when they just walk across the podium and you give them a graduation diploma and you say, ‘What are you going to do with your life?’ We need to be training them before that. That educated workforce will be at least half the time I spend. We’ve got tremendous opportunities, especially here in Meridian. You’ve got a great infrastructure here. We’re at the crossroads of the interstate, we have great railroads, we have people that work here and build things. I see that expanding.”

Hosemann has served as Secretary of State for three terms. He has three children and seven grandchildren. For more information on his campaign, visit www.delberthosemann.com.
