Jeannie's Place at Planet Playground project now underway

The long-awaited Jeannie’s Place at Planet Playground project is now in full swing with community volunteers gearing up for the first shifts of the week.

“We’re trying to get all the different things cut out so its easier to put together, as well as different things organized. We’ve got several different crews going right now that are busy, whether its painting different screws, moving things to where they’re more accessible, as well as all the power saws and other tools going right now,” said Junior Auxiliary member Bonnie Holloman.

Various organizations within the community are involved in building Jeannie’s Place, and today people from Meridian Community College, Naval Air Station Meridian, and the Meridian Fire Department were helping out.

“Our definite needs are night shift and weekends, so if you can come out at 4:30-5 in the evening until 8-8:30, that would be awesome—that would be great,” said Kasey Norton who is also part of Meridian’s Junior Auxiliary.

This project is being built completely by volunteers in the community, and it is set to be finished by the end of this weekend.

“It’s been an emotional roller coaster for many different things, and to see it actually being in the process is amazing,” said Holloman.

“Two years ago, it was in the process and then got put on hold, and, now, its here and its happening. We will have a playground at 5 o’clock on Sunday.”

Everyone is invited to come out and volunteer and come to the reveal of the all-inclusive playground at on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Volunteers can sign up by emailing
