Students at Northeast Elementary paint school mural.

Northeast Elementary School students are bringing out their artistic talent by creating their school’s first mural.

The Mississippi Alliance For Arts Education gave the school a one-hundred dollar grant to purchase art supplies, and a book titled “Something Beautiful”; which is about how art transforms a community.

The students at Northeast chose to transform their school by painting a mural.More than seven-hundred students will participate.

“Students after they read the story; we’re given an opportunity to draw pictures of what they wanted to be included on the mural, because I wanted it to be something that represented them, so they decided they wanted their school, and then they drew things like emoji’s and mermaids and trees and clouds and puzzle pieces.” Said Jennifer Boyette Northeast Art Interventionist.

The mural will be placed in the office hallway and is expected to be finished by Friday. If they are chosen to have the best mural, they could win up to five-hundred dollars.
