Family, friends celebrate Friend's 104th birthday


Family, friends, and members in the congregation at St. Peter United Methodist Church. celebrated Cynthia Coleman Friend living for 104 years.

Words of enlightenment and many song selections could be heard inside the chapel at in Friend's honor.

“I recognize that most people don’t have the blessings of having a mom to get this old, and she has been a good mom. As poor as we were, she made sure that we were taken care of in every aspect and she stills enjoy living.” Said Norman Coleman.

Friend is thankful to have lived this long and doesn't feel her age.

“I say about ninety,” Friend said.

While Friend has the privilege of living as long as she has, she shares with others the importance of advantages awaiting that she once never had.

“You can be what you want to be; we didn't have that opportunity: the same things that you have today; you know, but now you can pretty much do what you want to,” Friend added.

Life values learned by Friend is something her son still follows today.

“She instilled in us to do our best; you know what I mean and whatever we do try to do our best and character and behaviors was very important to her discipline, respect, respecting others and seniors.” Said Richard Coleman Sr.
