Meridian Police capture wanted fugitive

A Georgia fugitive traveling through Mississippi was apprehended by Meridian Police Tuesday around 10 in the morning M-P-D's 9-1-1 dispatch received a call from a law enforcement agency in Georgia about a vehicle that was reported stolen.

The vehicle was later found inside of the Walmart parking lot where officers then found 20-year-old Cody Austin Hemphill hiding in the area thanks to help from his ex-girlfriend sharing exchanged text messages about his location.

“The estranged girlfriend of Hemphill’s; she was telling the officers that Hemphill was hiding in the bushes near Lowes, he was texting her telling her that the officers were around the truck and that he was still on his way to kill her in Louisiana.” Said Meridian Police Department Captain John Griffith.
