Juneteenth carries numerous meanings to the community of Meridian. “I think it represents freedom, it gives us the opportunity to actually advance here in our city Meridian, it brings a lot of unity as you can see today, it brings us together to celebrate a worthy cost.” Said Tyrone Johnson, City Council, Ward 2. “We’re celebrating African-American business, those things that African-Americans have done in this community in this country and we’re celebrating just to be free to do that.” Said Terrence Davis, cultural affairs assistant.

The celebration doesn’t just stop with music, but highlights African-American entrepreneurship. “To have black business that are liberated and we are celebrating, I know we have music and you can hear the music in the background, at the end of the day, The Minority Business alliance we want to show and we want to let people know that black business have been liberated and that’s a key thing for us at Juneteenth.” Said Joseph Denson, Minority Business Alliance member.
