Waller making rounds before August election, visits Meridian

One republican candidate running for governor is making his rounds before the primary coming up on August 6th and recently made a stop in Meridian. Former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice and lifelong Conservative Bill Waller made a stop downtown at the restaurant Jean’s, and he’s looking to further connect with locals in Lauderdale county, especially veterans. “My military background is unique. I’m the only candidate in the Republican primary that has any military experience. Not only do I have experience, I’ve soldiered with the people in the Lauderdale- East Mississippi area. So, that’s unique,” said Waller.

Ken Storms has served in the military and has also worked in local government as the city of Meridian’s CAO. Storms believes these two things are crucial for leadership. “He’s got a military background, which relates to my background, and he just comes across as somebody that I think can take charge and get the job done. You know, that’s my background. That’s my whole adult education so to speak, until I came down here and worked for city hall for sixteen years,” said Storms. “So, I’ve added that little political background into it, and to be able to marry the two, I think, is important, and I think it’s good for the state.” Waller feels he has a special connection with veteran voters. “I share that kinship, if you will. The message has been taken very well, and I’ve been so humbled by all the military people that have risen up and embraced my candidacy. They know I understand what our military faces and that we have less than 1% of the population in uniform right now defending our country. Freedom is not free.” Waller is running against two other candidates for the republican primary, Tate Reeves and Robert Foster.
