MCC Resource Fair, providing community outlets for students

Students took advantage of Meridian Community College’s beginning of the year Resource Fair and looking for ways to get involved. “Well, it shows them what services they can connect to within the community, and a lot of times they may have troubles with college in terms of mental health, housing, or other issues. This can give them great opportunities that they can connect to, and, who knows, they may even find a job here at the fair as well,” said William Bracken who is currently a psychology major at MSU Meridian.

Some of those working at the job fair said they simply want students to have other outlets that can help their overall performance in life. “A lot of it comes down to traits they learn like disciple, self-development, professional development—a lot of things that give them marketable skills that can help them make them more of an asset to society,” said Sergeant Christopher McGee with the United States Marines. He said his time in the Marines has allowed him to become a better student overall. “Personally, I have a family as well. So, not only have I been able to maintain a stable and financial household for my family, but at the same time I’ve been able to go to college. I have not paid any money for college. I’m working on my bachelor’s degree right now, and I’m about three-quarters of the way done.”

And while Bracken has already graduated from MCC, he says it’s prepared him for where he’s at now, and where he’s going. “This school is like a family. Everybody kind of knows everybody. I’ve really had a fun time here. I’ve had really good grades, I’ve worked hard for it. It got me really well prepared for MSU Meridian, because I’m kicking butt at MSU Meridian,” said Bracken.
