Possible body of young boy found

Meridian police are investigating the discovery of a possible body of a small child found in a garbage bag. That discovery made -- during a search for a five-year-old boy-- missing since September 4th, according to Meridian Police Department Chief Benny Dubose. The mother of the missing boy claims her son was in the custody of Celeste Smith. Meridian police charged Smith with neglect and were then led to a residence on Crabapple Drive. There, investigators found a black garbage bag containing another garbage bag wrapped in duct tape. While the bag has yet to be opened. Chief Benny Dubose says they are positive a body is inside.

“There is some type of object inside the bag. We have not opened the bag to make a determination of whether or not it is indeed the missing child or if it is indeed a body, but it is the right size and so forth. That article will be taken to the Mississippi Crime Lab where it will be opened so that we won’t lose any sort of evidence,” said Dubose. Chief Dubose says the garbage bag will be opened first thing tomorrow morning by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. Smith is still in police custody. We will keep you updated on this developing story.
