Harris Park in Quitman will receive makeover

Harris Park in Quitman is about to get a major makeover thanks to the City of Quitman, The Quitman Woman's Club and the Clarke County Board of Supervisors.

"We came together, and we worked in collaboration to improve the park and upgrade it and bring it into something the community can be proud of,” said Becky Watkins, Quitman Woman’s Club president.

After raising money for 3 years, The City of Quitman received 0ne-hundred thousand dollars through the Land and Conservation grant.

“We believe in our community and we believe in our administration. We believe as long as Mickey Long told us he would keep trying and the mayor said we would keep trying, we keep trying,” said Watkins.

The progress never ended.

“We’ve cleared a lot of the trees out of here and we got to take some of the equipment that’s here. We’re going to get rid of it. We can’t repair it and so you’ll see a brand-new park here and it will be something that people can be proud of,” said Mayor Eddie Fulton, City of Quitman.

“When you look at a park that’s over 50 years old it’s time for a major face lift and that’s what we’re trying to do. We want to give it a face lift that it deserves, something that your children deserves to have and something the community deserves to have here,” said Mickey Long, District 5 supervisor
