Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency uses new notification system

The Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency is using innovative technology to relay important messages at a fast pace. This system is Called Nixle.

“Our notification system is all for Lauderdale County. Previous years we have used a system called Alert F-M and it was a good system, but it was not all exclusive,” said Oddie Barrett, LEMA director.

Signing up for the alerts is easy and fast.

You must text your zip code and then 888-777 for alerts.

“It’s simple to sign up over your cellphone and if we have any alerts that we send out or the national weather service, it’ll go straight to your cellphone,” said Oddie Barrett, LEMA director.

According to LEMA officials’ locals can also respond through text using the notification system.

“It’s anonymous. We don’t know who they are, we don’t know a phone number, we don’t know anything. We can get leads and tips over this system as well,” said Oddie Barrett, LEMA director.

From Android to Apple or even a regular phone, the notification system will still function.

“If you have just a regular flip phone you can just get regular text messages. It doesn’t have to be a smart phone. it can be any kind of cellphone that you can send or receive text messages from,” said Oddie Barrett, LEMA director.
