Plans announced for The East Mississippi Veterans Memorial Park

The East Mississippi Veterans Memorial Park is a project that is unfolding.

“It started when I discovered three other communities here in the United States acquiring other F4 Phantom Jets from their Memorial Park and knowing that Meridian Key field operated the RF4-C Phantom,” said Jeff Summerlin East Mississippi Veterans Park Memorial president.

The park will be located next to Key Field Air Base and will cost around four-hundred thousand dollars.

“It is going to take the help of the community area businesses foundations, organizations to untie and come together and show their respect and appreciation for our service members, our veterans, and the military that are apart and have been apart of the Meridian and East Mississippi community for 80 plus years,” Summerlin said.

Veterans say they are all for having a site where future generations can learn about those that served.

“To be able to have a place that you can come particularly with a Wall of Remembrance and you see the picture of someone that you worked with that was family for you for 25, 35 years you’ll be able to remember them,” said Danny Smith.

“It’s something that we can share with all of the family members. It’s something that we can sit around and pay homage to the ones that have served and have gone on before us. It is something that we can look forward to the future and say this is Meridian and East Mississippi,” said Charlie Hood.
