Excitement in Meridian Over Mississippi Lottery

People all across Mississippi and right here in Meridian are hoping for a date with lady luck.

With the new Mississippi state lottery, many rush to a convenience store near them for a chance to win.

Mississippi had been one of six states in the country without a lottery.

“I think it helps the economy a little bit, giving a person that don’t think they have a winning chance, they don’t have to go all the way to the casino to do this. It right around home, where you’re just in walking distance, because it’s a lot of people that live around this area. So, take a chance, hey, life is a chance itself and I think it does a lot, cheering a lot of people up, that’s slummed or feel like they can do nothing right or can’t win in life” , said Bryant Amerson, resident of Meridian.

Many who wanted to play the lottery would have to travel a distance for the opportunity to hit a jackpot.

“I ain’t got that, the wheels and stuff to be going way out of state to try to do something, why not do something at home, because its going to helps us”, said Amerson.

Residents like Bryant Amerson says he plans to play the lottery and the possibility of winning brings hope and excitement.

“I’m going to try it, because hey, this is your chance to shine a little bit, this is your chance to do something for yourself to help yourself”, said Amerson.

According to the Mississippi lottery website, tickets for the Powerball and Mega Millions will be available on January 30.
