Meridian 21st Annual MLK Day Parade

People across east Mississippi pounded the pavement today, to make sure the teachings of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are never forgotten.

This was the city’s 21st annual MLK day parade

And many organizations, bands and churches lined 25 th Avenue ready to march through the city.

“Oh, it’s a beautiful feeling just the fact that Dr. King died, not just for African Americans, but for everybody, so we could all have equal rights, it’s a beautiful thing and the fact that we can keep this parade going long after fifty years, a hundred years, it’s just the fact our grandchildren, great grandchildren, it’s like a generational thing” ,said parade participant Daetreeona Johnson, with Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Parade chairman, Greg Lane, estimated that there were at least fifty participants in this year’s parade.
