Join Rush Hospital and Vitalant for Thursday Blood Drive

MERIDIAN, MS — Every January we celebrate National Blood Donor Month, a month dedicated to highlighting the importance of donating blood regularly.

Celebrated every year since 1970, National Blood Donor Month is dedicated to observing the importance of blood donations and saving lives.

Donors are encouraged to start the New Year off by saving lives and resolving to donate at least 3 times throughout the year.

The winter season is particularly difficult for blood collection around the country. Blood donations are down over 21,000 after the holiday season. With blood needed every 2 seconds in the United States, donors play a vital role in patient outcomes.

Join Rush Hospital and Vitalant in saving lives at the Rush Hospital Blood Drive on Thursday, January 23 from 12:30 – 6 pm in the Specialty Hospital Classroom.

To schedule an appointment to give blood, go to or call 877-258-4825. Walk-in donors are always welcome.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
