Fatal Car Accident In Collinsville

Tonight in Lauderdale County, the Sheriff's Department is investigating after a woman is killed in a car accident.

The accident occurred at 1:00am in Collinsville on Hand Road in the Martin Community There were five passengers in the car, ranging in age from 15 to 22 years old. One passenger, 22-year-old Courtney Robertson, did not survive the crash. “The four other individuals in the car were also injured, two of those severe, one was taken by helicopters, the other by ground or by ambulance, to Jackson –to the hospital there”, Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun.

Chief Deputy Calhoun says the condition of the road was wet, and there was low visibility.

“In that particular part of the county, while there are homes on that road, it is a dark area. There are no streetlights and the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle”, said Calhoun.

Although they are not sure of the cause of the accident , they are looking at one particular variable.

“It’s certainly a tragedy anytime someone loses their life, especially someone that young and in a circumstance that doesn’t have to occur, and not stress enough for drivers to drive ---to recognize that we have speed limits on roadways for a reason. At this point in the investigation, we don’t know if this was one of the –it certainly is going to be one of the variables that will be looked at, but not to drive too fast for conditions”, said Calhoun.

The Lauderdale County Sheriffs Department asks that if you are a witness you to an accident, that you report them as soon as possible.
