West Lauderdale High School announced its plan for a volleyball team.
This is after it was announced that slow pitch softball would be discounted at all state high schools because lack of participation.
Officials at West Lauderdale High School say they've already ordered equipment.
Coaches say they see the replacement sport as an opportunity to introduce a new competitive sport for student athletes.
“I put a signup sheet Monday and I’ve already got 60 plus students 9th -12th. I haven’t checked the middle school yet. There’s a lot of interest in the sport and the community interest is growing quickly too,” said Matt Lum, West Lauderdale High School coach.
Team tryouts are set for March.
