The York community remembers the life and legacy of fallen soldier

A son, father, nephew, soldier and much more. Family members and loved ones in the community of York have been grieving the loss of 25-Year-Old Donzell Kiant’e Brooks, an Army specialist E4 who served at Fort Stewart- Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia.

“I got a call from the military when his passing was,” said Mariah White, Brooks aunt.

Since his passing on February 3rd, the community has been surrounded by love. His body was flown into Jackson and transported to York for viewing. Many residents and supporters showed up to give their condolences. An outpouring of love has been posted on social media.

“On Facebook, he just got pouring of sympathy and condolences because he helped several people,” said Mariah White, Brooks aunt. Brooks leaves behind a loving family including a son.

“How do you tell a child that their father is gone? It’s virtually impossible,” said Mariah White, Brooks aunt.

Brooks plans included proudly servicing his country first, and then to become a writer. Memories are shared as others join the family as they grieve.

“They feel my sister’s pain when you lose a child. This is a fallen soldier," said Mariah White, Brooks aunt.

Funeral services for Donzell Brooks will be held Saturday at Sumter Central at 12 Pm. Anyone is welcome to attend.
