Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department investigating first homicide of the year

In Lauderdale County, the sheriff’s department is investigating their first homicide of the year, after a body was found on the side of the road, early this morning.

According to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, the body was found on Valley Road near Arundel Road, around the time of 6am.

Authorities say 37-year-old Willie Lloyd Phillips was discovered laying on the side of the road opposite of a blood trail.

The portion of Valley Road where Phillips was found, was closed until 1:30 in the afternoon, when they began to clean up the scene.

Multiple shell casings were found on the scene and evidence has been collected.

Investigators believe the incident occurred before 6am, today and after 11pm yesterday.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office with the case and the body has been taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the homicide, and asks that if you have any additional information regarding the case, to contact them.
