Meridian Police Holds Press Conference Concerning Lauderdale Co. Courthouse Shooting


In Meridian, the police department held a press conference about yesterday’s shooting of a local judge at the Lauderdale County Courthouse.

Yesterday morning, Judge Charles Smith, was shot as he exited his truck in the parking lot on the east side of the courthouse.

At the press conference, authorities shared, that Smith is now in a stable condition at a hospital in Jackson, and that there are still no known suspects in this crime.

MPD is teaming up with investigators from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and they shared that they believe this was an isolated incident.

“This incident and shooting ---we feel very confident, that it is an isolated incident and this it was directed toward him and personal", Lewis Robbins, interim police chief.

The Meridian Police Department has stated that they have received some tips regarding this crime, and are asking the public to contact them or East Mississippi CrimeStoppers, if you have any information regarding the crime.
